DOUGLAS FAMILY REUNION

I started with over 550 photographs and got it down to 371 (I think) click on the link below to watch a slide show of the reunion, I didn't crop, lighten or remove wrinkles - these pictures right from the camera. I will look for a site to download them so you can order prints. It was great seeing you all, meeting new family and having a wonderful time. Hawaii Vacation Pictures 2006

Mid February, Laura and I went to the Big Island to visit Christine and Erik. They are working there for three months in the emergency room at Hilo and Waimea Hospitals. Our visit started in Kona ( on the dry side of the island). We stayed a few days and did some snorkeling and whale watching. Got to spend a day with Erik's mom Ruth. Then traveled up the coast to a beautiful beach for some boogie boarding (no beach pictures since I didn't want to leave my camera on the beach while I splashed around). We then crossed the island on Saddle Road between the two volcanos- a real rough ride. Hilo was our home base for much of the time. Visited the volcano several times, black and green sand beaches, more snorkeling (lots of fish), beautiful flower gardens, several waterfalls, volcano heated tide pools for swimming and South Point, the most southern part of the US. There was no access to flowing lava that was safe, recently where the lava was flowing a huge chunk dropped into the sea so they don't let tourists near. Towards the end of our vacation we headed north to the ranch country. Saw a small rodeo and stayed at a beautiful B&B that was part of the Parker ranch, the largest private ranch in the US. Then on to more waterfalls, great shoreline views, more hiking and 4x4 trips down steep one lane roads and through deep mud holes (Erik was a great driver). We ended at a beautiful beach that had some of the best diving I have ever done. SOOO many fish varieties, big green sea turtles I could swim with and lots of pretty coral. Christine and Erik were great hosts and travel guides and we ate at many wonderful restaurants. Love to you all, John
